Here’s another history lesson: 18th century playing cards and dice. Both items were subjected to taxation in the colonies under the Stamp Act (1765). This act was so hated in the colonies that here in Boston a mob went to the Lieutenant-Governor’s home on Garden Court Street in the North End and destroyed the home. Who doesn’t love a good mob?
